Sanwo-Olu flags off 670-metre road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku

The Lagos State Government has commenced the construction of the 670-metre Adebayo-Akinade Road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and stimulate economic activities in rural communities.

The project was flagged off on behalf of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Agbaje said the project was among the infrastructure initiatives being implemented to extend the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda to rural communities across the State.

He said the administration remained committed to reducing rural-urban migration through the provision of roads and other critical infrastructure that would improve access, create economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life of residents.

Agbaje disclosed that Governor Sanwo-Olu had recently approved the immediate commencement of six similar road projects in Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Ifelodun councils.

He appealed to residents and community stakeholders to provide a conducive environment for the contractor to execute the project without hindrance, while urging the contractor to deliver the road within the stipulated timeframe and in line with required quality standards.

In his goodwill message, the Member representing Ikorodu Constituency II, Aro Moshood, commended the Governor for what he described as an inclusive development agenda, particularly the administration’s efforts to transform rural communities into semi-urban areas through critical infrastructure.

Moshood said the Sanwo-Olu administration had, in the last seven years, approved more than seven critical road projects in Ikorodu, noting that the projects had contributed to economic empowerment and helped reduce rural-urban migration.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa, appreciated the Governor for sustaining the State’s rural development efforts through the provision of infrastructure and social amenities.

Bolarinwa said the initiatives had enhanced economic activities and improved living conditions in rural communities.

The Chairman, Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Prince Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, also commended the State Government for its continued investment in Ikorodu and other rural communities.

Aroyewun said the development projects undertaken by the administration had contributed to the transformation of Ikorodu and increased its attractiveness to residents and investors.

He urged residents and community stakeholders to avoid activities capable of disrupting the contractor’s operations or delaying completion of the project.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Odera Community Development Association, Professor Noah Imodu, expressed appreciation to the Governor on behalf of residents, describing the road project as a symbol of improved accessibility, economic empowerment, safety and security.

Imodu assured the State Government that residents would protect the project and work with the contractor and relevant authorities to ensure its timely completion.

The flag-off is the latest in a series of rural road projects initiated by the State Government within the past week.

Other projects include the 560-metre Isikalu Road, 270-metre Odofin Road, 320-metre Alayabiagba Road and 250-metre Cemetery Road in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, as well as the 320-metre Asubiojo Road and 320-metre Owoseni Road in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area.
