Lagos CP leads peace walk against political, digital thuggery

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday led a peace walk in Lagos to mark International Youth Day 2026 and launch a campaign against political and digital thuggery.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, led the exercise, which was designed to strengthen police-community relations and encourage young people to play active roles in peacebuilding, security and national development.

Details of the event was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebesi.

The event, themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” was organised in line with the directive and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to deepen engagement with youths and position them as partners in maintaining public order.

The peace walk drew participants from several youth, transport and civil society groups, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria, National Youth Service Corps, National Association of Nigerian Students, Police Community Relations Committee, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria and the National Association of Online Safety and Peace Practitioners.

The command said the campaign was aimed at urging young Nigerians to reject political thuggery, digital thuggery, drug abuse, cultism and hooliganism, while embracing responsible citizenship and constructive participation in society.

It also called on youths to use digital platforms responsibly and avoid actions that could fuel violence, disorder and insecurity.

The police said the initiative was part of wider efforts to build trust between officers and communities, while creating a safer environment across Lagos State.

It urged youths and other stakeholders to support peace and security efforts, saying meaningful youth participation remains essential to national development.
