FG inaugurates committee on ecological projecty in Yobe

The Federal Government has inaugurated a nine-member presidential committee to implement Nguru Ecological Intervention project in Yobe State, urged stakeholders to support government’s commitment in addressing environmental issues.
The Minister of Environment, Mr Mohammed Abdullahi, inaugurated the project on Saturday in Abuja.
Abdullahi commended Emir of Nguru, Alhaji Mustafa Kyari, for requesting for ecological funds to mitigate climate change impacts and restore degraded lands in the area.
He said that the Federal Government was committed to tackling climate change and environmental challenges, food security, and other socio-economic problems across the country.
He said the government was dedicated to improving the general wellbeing of the people, adding that it was being clearly demonstrated through various policies, programmes and initiatives by the ministry.
“It is also being demonstrated by President Muhammad Buhari’s directive to the effect that this committee should be established.
“However, we acknowledge the fact that government alone cannot do it, collaborative partnerships of all stakeholders, including our Royal Fathers, are critical.
“It is thus heartwarming that what is happening today is at the instance of a royal father.
” I am therefore, particularly excited about the concern and zeal of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Nguru, to identify with our vision.
“The effort is to make life better for the generality of our people through degraded lands restoration, mitigation of climate change impacts as well as improved livelihoods,” he said.
The minister recalled that the Emir of Nguru, on behalf of the Forest Farmers (Nguru) Cooperative Society, requested for ecological funds for afforestation of degraded land to mitigate climate change impacts within the Emirate.
He said that the land was cleared in 2017 through intervention of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to enable implementation of the livelihood project called “Rural Agriculture Re-modelled Project Strategies”.
“This request is in conformity with the vision and developmental agenda of the present administration, especially the attainment of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and global emission reduction.
“Mr. President has graciously directed that an inter-ministerial committee, comprising relevant ministries and agencies be set up.
“This is in regard to consider this lofty request and come up with recommendations which must include but not limited to the modalities for its implementation and cost implications,” he said.
Abdullahi said that the committee was consisted with various ministries and agencies, adding that the committee was expected to submit its report by Jan. 27.
He said that the committee should produce results that would assist in the delivery on the assignment and in the achievement of the far-reaching government policies on environment and climate change.
“I congratulate you for being counted worthy to be part of the team as we collaborate and make contributions towards safeguarding our environment and enhancement of wellbeing of our citizens.
He, however, urged the committee to ensure that the project’s site was accessible for on-the-spot evaluation to identify key intervention areas.
He added that the committee should liaise and work with relevant organisations for funding intervention and give a detail plan of action, including financial implications.
He also advised the committee to ensure that a comprehensive technical report, including recommendations, was submitted to him accordingly.
The emir expressed his gratitude to Buhari and the minister for granting his request graciously, adding that the project was all about the environmental problems.
He said that the inauguration would enhance in the implementation of the project, wishing that the next administration would continue with the execution of the project.
The Chairperson of the committee, Director, Forestry of the ministry, Mrs Sami Umar, who spoke on behalf of the committee, thanked the minister for the opportunity given to them to handle a national assignment.
Umar said the committee would work deligently and in oneness to ensure that the implementation of the project was effective and successful.

How Palmpay overcame trust deficit in 12 months- MD Nwosu

Nigerians’ trust in Palmpay, a Central Bank of Nigeria’s fintech licensed bank, has grown tremendously in the last 12 months.

The Managing Director of Palmpay Nigeria, Chika Nwosu, disclosed this recently when he appeared on  Channels TV Business Roundtable.

Recall that the CBN recently restricted Palmpay and four fintech banks from onboarding new customers.

However, Nwosu gave insights into regulatory concerns surrounding the FinTech ecosystem and said that Palmpay has come to stay within Nigeria’s banking sector.

“Whatever happens with regulation is for the good of the FinTech space in Nigeria. Initially, when we started, there was an issue of trust. However, I can tell you now that the last 1 year after the cashless policy has seen the trust start to grow”.

The Managing Director emphasized PalmPay’s unwavering support for regulators in regulating the FinTech ecosystem, underscoring that regulators want to improve the services of strong players in the FinTech space, such as PalmPay.

On the ease of doing business and how it affects PalmPay, he said:

“Doing business in Nigeria for us is difficult, but Nigerians are embracing our App and digital payment”.

When asked about the problem of failed transfers, he stressed,

“Every institution has its business strategy and infrastructure. For us and most fintechs, we have a structure that makes transactions seamless”.

Regarding the regulator’s recent onboarding policy, he stated that PalmPay agreed with the regulators on some grey areas that must be addressed.

Reassuring customers that there was no issue with using PalmPay, he emphasized, “If PalmPay completes their own today, we will start onboarding today”.

On the issue of trust and the security of the PalmPay app, he said,

“There is no day you won’t see on our app boldly written that we are licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and our deposits are insured by the Nigeria Deposits Insurance Corporation (NDIC). PalmPay is here to stay”.

Mushin LG Chairman flags off construction of Yusuf Street road, promises solar lighting

The Mushin Local Government Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye on Wednesday flagged off the construction of Yusuf Street road in Papa Ajao.

The project is expected to bring relief to residents and traders in the area and is set to be completed within six months.

According to Bamigboye, the project is a fulfillment of his campaign promise to the people of Mushin, and he expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to execute the project.

He urged residents to cooperate with the contractor and the local government to ensure the successful completion of the project.

The councillor representing the ward, Ayomide Abioye, expressed his joy and appreciation for the project, stating that it is the longest street in Papa Ajao and will bring immense benefit to the community.

Also, the Baba Oloja of Ladipo International Market, Eze Monday, also commended the Executive Chairman for the project, stating that it will make a significant impact on the development of the area.

The project includes the construction of the road and the installation of solar lighting, which is expected to enhance security and facilitate economic activities in the area.

Residents and traders in the area have been warned not to disturb the contractor or disrupt the project in any way.

Meanwhile, the traders applauded Hon. Bamigboye for demonstrating its commitment to infrastructural development and the welfare of its citizens.
