Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party.

Kashim, who previously stepped down for Governor Bala Mohammed during the 2023 election cycle, announced his departure in a letter dated July 21, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Majidadi B in Bauchi Local Government Area.

In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities he received, including being nominated as the PDP’s gubernatorial flag bearer in 2022. He noted that he voluntarily withdrew his candidacy to support Governor Mohammed’s re-election bid and actively mobilised support across Bauchi Local Government during the campaign.

“I discharged my responsibilities as Secretary to the State Government while also ensuring victory for the party across virtually all wards in Bauchi, despite the historic challenges of second-term candidates,” Kashim stated.

He further revealed that his decision to quit the PDP followed deep reflection and a desire to explore new political opportunities. “Effective today, I have resigned my membership of the PDP and will seek new ways to serve the people with commitment, integrity, and fear of Allah,” he added.

Kashim, who holds the religious title Muqaddas Din Bauchi, thanked the PDP for its past support and wished the party success in its future endeavours.

Kashim emerged as PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in May 2022 but stepped down in June of that year to allow Governor Mohammed to contest for a second term. Following the governor’s re-election, Kashim was reappointed SSG but later resigned from the post in December 2024.

His resignation has sparked speculation about a possible return to the governorship race in the 2027 elections.
