The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has denied claims that former Governor Kayode Fayemi is scheming to woo members away through a secret stakeholders’ meeting with the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

There have been persistent rumours suggesting that the ex-governor is aligning with a coalition of prominent politicians across the country opposed to President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, rejected the reports, describing them as fabrications by mischief-makers intent on stirring internal discord.

“We are not disturbed. This is the season of propaganda, filled with lies and half-truths aimed at confusing the public.

“Anyone genuinely interested in what is happening within our party should reach out to me as the party’s spokesperson to receive accurate information, rather than rely on unfounded gossip,” Dipe said.

The rumour had claimed that Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and APC leaders were resisting a purported meeting allegedly convened by Fayemi to signal to his ADC associates that he maintains influence in the state.

Dipe dismissed the allegations as unfounded.

“I do not see how such an event could take place in our party, which remains strong and focused on winning the forthcoming gubernatorial election to set a record of producing a governor who will serve two consecutive terms in Ekiti.

“Any report suggesting otherwise is not from our party but is being concocted by external forces,” he explained.

He also cautioned those behind the rumours.

“We know we are the most formidable political party in the state and across the country today, so it is natural that some will try to destabilise us to create opportunities for infiltration and confusion.

“We are also aware of internal detractors who look for every chance to foment crisis. We call them crisis merchants, but they will not succeed,” Dipe stated.

He reaffirmed that all party stakeholders, including Fayemi, remain fully committed to supporting Governor Oyebanji’s re-election.

“We may not agree on everything, but we have no reason to discourage unity in the interest of consolidating our hold on governance.

“We are not gamblers. We are a focused party,” he added, issuing a caution to those spreading falsehoods about the APC.
