The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the forthcoming Anambra State election, Mr Jude Ezenwafor, is in critical condition after a violent gun attack in Abuja on Friday night.
Ezenwafor, who was shot by suspected assassins, is undergoing treatment at an undisclosed private hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Over the weekend, unverified reports of his alleged death spread across social media. However, sources close to his family confirmed that he is alive but remains in a serious condition.
The FCT Police Command has opened an investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said:
“The command has commenced an investigation into the matter. However, the exact details and circumstances of the attack are yet to be fully established.”
The motive behind the assault has not been determined, although party supporters have described it as a “deliberate assassination attempt” ahead of the November polls in Anambra.
