Former Osun State governor and PDP stalwart, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has warned that any move by Governor Ademola Adeleke to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could spell the end of his political career.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Oyinlola blamed the recent wave of defections in Osun PDP on sustained pressure from the ruling APC, accusing the party of using its influence to destabilize opposition ranks.
“It feels horrid, I would say. There’s always enormous pressure from the ruling party, from all the elected officers, and that’s what is producing this defection up and down,” he said.
Although he didn’t name the defecting senators, Oyinlola noted that several high-profile members of the PDP in Osun, including federal lawmakers, had recently jumped ship—heightening concerns about the party’s stability ahead of 2027.
He stressed that Governor Adeleke had resisted similar pressure, warning that joining the APC would be politically damaging. “APC has not fared well with the people of Osun State. Telling him to roll over to APC will mean ruining his political career, because the people will not support that. He knows it,” Oyinlola said.
Asked if he too had been pressured to defect, the former military administrator and one-time national PDP secretary responded: “Me? I’m a battle-tested general. No amount of pressure will set me off.”
His remarks come amid growing uncertainty over PDP’s ability to maintain its base in Osun as it prepares for the next general elections.
