…Applauds Okpebholo on revival of Edo Line Transport Service
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for relaunching the New Edo Line Transport Service, describing the initiative as a significant step towards modernising infrastructure and improving public services in the state.
The commendation was made during the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, where Tinubu addressed party leaders and stakeholders from across the country.
Reaffirming the APC-led Federal Government’s commitment to good governance, Tinubu acknowledged Okpebholo’s drive for development that resonates with the people.
“I also congratulate the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, on the Supreme Court affirmation of his mandate,” Tinubu announced to loud applause.
“We will continue to work with you. We have seen and we congratulate you on the newly-launched Edo Line.”
The President’s endorsement reflects confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership, which in its early months has been defined by reform and a focus on citizen-centred governance.
Once a struggling public transport system, the Edo Line has been revived with a fleet of modern buses, improved management, and upgraded service delivery under Okpebholo’s administration.
The relaunch is viewed as a major intervention to improve mobility, create jobs, and drive economic growth across Edo’s urban and rural communities. The governor’s approach positions public transport as a vehicle for commerce, education access, and social inclusion.
The new service is expected to cut travel costs, ease the movement of traders and workers, and restore confidence in state-managed transport infrastructure.
Collaboration between Tinubu and Okpebholo has begun to yield benefits beyond transport, with increased federal attention to infrastructure, coordinated efforts on security, agriculture, and social programmes, and a focus on policies that enhance everyday life for Edo residents.
Tinubu’s economic reforms and Okpebholo’s grassroots-oriented governance have formed an alliance aimed at improving citizens’ welfare. His public recognition of the governor’s work at the NEC meeting is seen as a strong signal of political support and encouragement for Edo’s ongoing reforms.
Okpebholo, whose mandate was recently upheld by the Supreme Court, has consistently credited Tinubu’s leadership philosophy as a model for his administration.
He has described the President as a “visionary builder of modern governance” whose policies have created opportunities for innovation and restoration at state level.
The synergy between the two leaders is evident in revenue reforms, digital governance, and youth empowerment. Edo has already aligned with federal initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including rural electrification projects and targeted agricultural support schemes.
