A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Augustine Ehiemere, has blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its 2023 presidential election loss, citing the party’s failure to zone its ticket to the South East.

Ehiemere, who is the South East national vice chairman of APGA, said in an interview in Umuahia that the PDP had a stronger chance of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if it had supported a presidential candidate from the South East.

He described the move as a missed opportunity, adding that the party’s current state may make it easier for the APC to retain power in future elections.

While noting that the South East deserves a shot at the presidency, Ehiemere said the political timing may no longer favour the zone. “This is politics. Sometimes it’s unpredictable, and anything can happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Abia State chairman of the PDP, Abraham Amah, confirmed that the party has not yet made a decision on its 2027 ticket, stating that a zoning committee has been set up to review the matter.
