The family of Mr. Osazuwa Okpeaifoh and Mrs. Grace Seyi Okpeaifoh remains in grave danger following a gruesome triple homicide carried out by suspected members of the Black Axe secret cult group in Edo State.

The violent attack took place on the night of November 15, 2024, at 41 Chief Ekhator street in the Oluku community of Benin City. According to eyewitness accounts, a gang of hooded, heavily armed cultists stormed the residence, wielding guns, axes, bottles, and clubs while chanting cult slogans.

Their target, Mr. Evans Ebohon — a neighbor — was brutally murdered along with his wife, Mrs. Rose Ivie Ebohon, and their eight-year-old son, Master Ephraim Ebohon. The victims were killed execution-style in what police described as a cold-blooded massacre.

Unbeknownst to the assailants, Mrs. Grace Okpeaifoh was upstairs at the time and witnessed the carnage from her hiding spot. As the killers were leaving, one of them reportedly heard a noise from above and pursued her. She narrowly escaped through a backdoor just as police sirens approached.

The incident was promptly reported at the Ekiadolor Police Station under the Edo State Police Command. However, the threat to the Okpeaifoh family intensified in the following weeks.

In a brazen follow-up attack, the cultists raided the family’s ancestral home on 26th February, 2025.

They shot his mother and brother in-law 26th February 2025 in search of Mrs. Okpeaifoh. Though she was not present, the assailants shot her mother and brother in the head, leaving both critically injured. Other relatives have since gone into hiding, fearing further assaults.

Security sources say the Black Axe cult group — a syndicate notorious for assassination, political thuggery, armed robbery, and drug trafficking — continues to monitor the family’s movements, allegedly determined to eliminate the lone eyewitness to their crime.

A source close to the investigation, who requested anonymity, stated, “The syndicate has not relented. We are working with law enforcement to ensure the family’s safety and to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The case has reignited public concern over the rising wave of cult-related violence in Edo State. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
