The peace-loving community of Amasiri, in the Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi, has been placed under tension and despair. A middle-aged man, Uduma Idam-Chima, has vanished — abducted by suspected kidnappers at noon.
Ebonyi State Police Command has since authenticated the attack, which happened on June 14, and initiated a manhunt for the abductors.
Speaking to newsmen in an interview, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, said that the force had already sent officers to the area and initiated a detailed investigation.
“We’re working tirelessly to uncover the truth and secure his release,” Ukandu said. “Our men are on ground, and we’re combing through every lead.”
But for the people of Oso-Edda, this is not just another police operation. It’s personal. It’s painful. And it’s terrifying.
Thursday brought protesters from Oso-Edda Development Town Union onto the streets — not for infrastructure, not for politics, but for the life of one of them. They marched with placards, sang songs of plea, and walked protesting injustice, pleading with security agents to move before the time runs out.
Mr Ama Aba Emeh, President-General of the town union, stated that the kidnap has brought long-standing fears back to the community.
“This isn’t about Uduma alone,” he stated. “It’s about all of us. We require enduring peace. We require safety. And we require him alive.”
With each passing day, apprehension increases. Kids want to know why there is tension in the air. Merchants close up shop earlier than usual. The name “Uduma” is now breathed in anguish, not familiarity.
