As part of efforts to reinforce a sustainable security framework, Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has disbursed ₦150 million to families of three military officers who lost their lives in recent counter-insurgency operations.
The intervention, carried out through personal visits to the affected families in Abuja, Niger, and Kano states, reflects a broader approach that extends beyond frontline operations to strengthening morale and welfare systems for security personnel and their dependents.

Each of the bereaved families of the late Lt. Col. Salihu Iliyasu, Lt. Col. Aliyu Saidu Paiko, and Lt. Col. Umar Farouq received ₦50 million, with the governor offering condolences and reaffirming the state government’s commitment to honoring their sacrifices.
Zulum noted that building a resilient security structure requires sustained support for the families of fallen heroes, emphasizing that their sacrifices remain vital to ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in Borno State.

The governor also highlighted existing support measures, including financial assistance and scholarship programmes for children of deceased soldiers and volunteer forces, aimed at providing long-term social protection.

He further disclosed plans to continue similar engagements with other affected families, reinforcing a policy direction that prioritizes both security operations and human-centered support systems.
Senior government officials accompanied the governor during the visits.
