Irele Tower opens, adds EDGE-Certified green offices in Lekki

Irele Tower has officially opened at the Lagos Free Trade Zone, expanding office capacity in the fast-growing Lekki corridor as Nigeria continues to attract new investment, with a strong emphasis on resource-efficient design.

The nine-storey development provides approximately 12,000 square metres of office and retail space within the zone, strengthening the Lagos Free Trade Zone’s ability to meet rising demand from both local and international firms seeking proximity to key port, logistics, and industrial infrastructure.

Designed as an EDGE-certified building by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Irele Tower incorporates sustainability-focused features aimed at reducing operational costs and environmental impact. The structure is engineered to consume about 26 per cent less energy and 46 per cent less water compared to conventional buildings, while also enhancing indoor environmental quality for occupants.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the project as a reflection of the state’s infrastructure-driven growth strategy and its broader ambition to position Lagos as a leading investment destination. He noted that the Lagos Free Trade Zone continues to play a vital role in supporting industrialisation, job creation, and economic diversification.

Adesuwa Ladoja, Managing Director of Lagos Free Zone Company, said the tower aligns with the zone’s vision of developing an integrated business ecosystem built on strong infrastructure, strategic location, and efficient logistics. She added that demand for high-quality and sustainable workspaces has increased in tandem with growing investor interest in the Lekki axis.

Also speaking, Yemisi Edun, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), said the bank’s early support for the project underscores its confidence in the long-term potential of the zone. She noted that Irele Tower represents a successful model of coordinated financing and development, adding that FCMB remains committed to supporting economic growth following its recapitalisation.

The Lagos Free Trade Zone continues to evolve as a major hub connecting industry, trade, and services. With the addition of Irele Tower, the zone expands its commercial footprint while promoting the adoption of sustainable building standards across the Lekki corridor.
