Former Bayelsa East Senator and media mogul, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The businessman made the announcement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his “courage, leadership, and vision for Nigeria.”
According to Murray-Bruce, for the first time in history, Nigeria has “a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe.”
He maintained that although Nigerians are currently facing hardship, the situation would soon improve as the country transitions into a free-market economy.
“The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity. We are moving into a free-market economy, one that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion,” he stated.
The former senator further praised the government’s efforts in restoring security and stabilising the economy, commending the National Security Adviser and the Central Bank of Nigeria for their respective roles.
“Insecurity is being quietly and systematically dismantled. The Central Bank, now professionally steered, is stabilising the economy, rebuilding confidence, and restoring the dignity of the naira. Our foreign policy is again respected. Our fuel supply is deregulated,” he said.
Murray-Bruce also noted that Nigeria’s infrastructural development under Tinubu’s administration was laying the groundwork for future growth.
“These developments are not just concrete and steel; they are the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow,” he said, adding that reform, though painful, is necessary for national rebirth.
Declaring his allegiance to the APC, Murray-Bruce said his decision was driven by a commitment to progress rather than politics.
“That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of. In the full term of eight years, Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth. I choose to stand with that vision,” he affirmed.
His defection comes barely hours after Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, also announced his move to the APC alongside 23 members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, and shortly after Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, made a similar switch.
