The Take-It-Back Movement (TIB), in collaboration with the Movement for the Transformation of Nigeria (MoTion), has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest against what it described as “anti-people” government policies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The protest, scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, will begin in Lagos State and extend to other parts of the country. According to the organisers, the demonstration is aimed at rejecting rising poverty, exploitative taxes, and the forceful eviction of poor citizens.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek, the Lagos State Coordinator of TIB, the protest is expected to commence at 7 a.m. at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The organisers said the demonstration would be a “united call against crippling poverty, exploitative fuel tax, and oppressive tax reforms” which, according to them, have deepened the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians.

“In recent months, millions of Nigerians have been pushed deeper into poverty as the cost of living skyrockets beyond survival limits,” the statement reads in part.

The groups further criticised the Federal Government’s economic policies, saying the so-called tax reforms have only protected the elite while burdening the working class.

“The regime’s so-called ‘tax reform’ has only worsened economic hardship, targeting the poor while protecting the rich,” the statement added.

TIB said the protest would draw participation from workers, students, traders, artisans, and the unemployed, adding that it would be peaceful but resolute in its message.

The movement noted that the growing inequality and rising cost of living in Nigeria have reached an unbearable point, necessitating mass action.

The groups vowed to continue mobilising until government policies reflect the realities of ordinary citizens.
