Mr Desmond Elliot, the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I at Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged residents of the area to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, assuring them of better days ahead.
Elliot made the appeal on Thursday during the Lagos State House of Assembly 10th Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting held at Methodist Church Hall, Small London, Surulere, Lagos.
The theme of the meeting is, “Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda”.
He said the present administration had made improvement in various sectors of the economy such as agriculture, infrastructure, health, education among others.
“The government of the day is making a lot of progress as far as agricultural development is concerned, such as the creation of agricultural hub in the state.
“Tinubu’s administration has improved foreign partnership where investors can easily come from various countries without having to go through cumbersome immigration processes.
“There is relatively peace in the country and this will lead to better investment which is so needed for economic growth,” Elliot said.
He added that there were free scholarships that could now be accessed by Nigerian students regardless of tribe or gender.
“The coastal road is another project that will facilitate development in the country once it’s completed,” he said.
Elliot said that town hall meetings were important because they created an avenue for reaching out to the people, getting feedback from them and improving upon areas that needed attention.
“This town meeting is to showcase to the residents about the achievement so far that we have made as well as addressing pressing issues regarding the society.
“Some of the constituents talked about their needs and what affects them individually, such as the power situation which has been a huge concern to them.
“The power iissue is omething that the government is working on and it will be addressed as soon as possible,” he said.
Elliot acknowleged the challenges Nigerians are facing, stating, “I recall that upon inception of Tinubu’s administration, we were told to brace up because the beginning of the journey to better living wouldn’t be easy.
“However, we have started seeing improvement and the suffering stage will soon be over.
“We have already realised our budget for the year and what this means is that the indices are working for us and we will begin to see certain improvement as a people.”
Elliot urged his constituents to contribute their quota to grassroots development, emphasising that the government can not do it all alone.
“Therefore, it is our job as council chairmen and House representatives to speak on behalf of the people.
“The Federal Government has done well so far by ensuring direct allocation to the local government areas.
“It is now the responsibility of the people to ask their various local government chairmen what they are doing with the allocation given to them,” he said.
