Anambra sets Aug 2026 for LG elections

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (AnSIEC) has fixed August 29, 2026, for chairmanship and councillorship elections across the state.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday in Awka by the Commission’s Chairperson, Mrs Genevieve Osakwe.

Mrs Osakwe explained that the decision was anchored on Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, and Section 23 of the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024, which grant the commission authority to issue election notices.

She stated that the election timetable and schedule of activities will be available for collection at the Commission’s headquarters from Friday, November 28, 2025.

“We call on all political parties to begin obtaining their nomination forms from the commission’s office along the Enugu–Awka Expressway,” she said.

Records indicate that AnSIEC last conducted local government elections in September 2024.
