Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Emma Eneukwu, has mourned the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as both a national tragedy and a personal loss.

Eneukwu said the late president was deeply admired by Nigerians, who continued to treat him as a national hero until his final moments.

Buhari’s passing was announced on Sunday by his family through spokesperson Garba Shehu and former aide Bashir Ahmad. He died at 4:30 p.m. in a London clinic, according to the statement.

Reacting on Monday, Eneukwu expressed sorrow over the loss of a man he called a “stabilising force” and a “no-nonsense general” who gave his all to the country.

“Buhari lived for Nigeria. He was abundantly loved by his people and will be remembered for his courage, simplicity, and patriotism,” he said.

Reflecting on their political journey, Eneukwu recalled his role in backing Buhari’s first presidential bid under the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), praising his leadership qualities and unwavering commitment to nation-building.

“I feel a sense of personal loss. His wisdom is needed now more than ever, especially with the challenges threatening the unity of this country,” he noted.

Eneukwu hailed Buhari’s anti-corruption drive, austere lifestyle, and fierce stance against terrorism, saying those legacies will remain etched in Nigeria’s history.

“May Almighty Allah accept him into Aljannatul Firdausi,” he prayed.
