As part of activities marking its 50th anniversary, the University of Ilorin will on Wednesday recognise 65 distinguished Nigerians, many of whom are alumni of the institution, for their outstanding achievements and contributions.
The commemorative event, titled “Investiture Ceremony of Unilorin Ambassadors, Distinguished Alumni, and Award of Excellence,” is scheduled to hold at the University Auditorium.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, and quoting the Chairman of the Awards Planning Committee, Prof AbdulRasheed A. Adeoye, the University disclosed that the ceremony would celebrate individuals who have demonstrated excellence in their careers, promoted the institution’s reputation, and contributed significantly to its development.
According to the statement, “Specifically, one alumnus and a distinguished Nigerian will receive the Award of Excellence, 10 others will be recognised as Distinguished Alumni, while 50 individuals and three graduating sets will be invested as Unilorin Ambassadors.”
Notable Recipients Include JAMB Registrar, Immigration CG, ThisDay MD
Among those to be honoured are the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University and current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Emeritus Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON; Dr Tunji Olowolafe; Dr Adeyemi Murtadha Adeniji; Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof Temidayo Oladiji; former Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd, Mr Babatunde Omotowa; and prominent accountant, Dr AWA Ibrahim.
Other honourees include former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Dr Sarah Omotunde Alade; Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nanna Nandap; and Managing Director of ThisDay Newspapers, Mr Eniola Bello.
Also listed for recognition are the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah; Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Prof Olayemi Akinwumi; Prof David Durosomo; and Justice Asmau Tanwa Akanbi, among others.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will serve as the chief host of the event, while renowned legal scholar and Professor of Practice, Mallam Olaolu Ali, SAN, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at what the organisers describe as an “epoch-making occasion.”
