2027: Rivers Igbo Community endorse O.K. Chinda

The Igbo community in Rivers State has resolved to join mainstream politics, endorsing the APC governorship hopeful, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists shortly after a crucial meeting of Ndigbo in Rivers State, His Imperial Majesty, Eze (Engr.) Samm Nwaokolo, Eze Ndigbo Gburugburu, said the community resolved to shun opposition politics in 2027, leaving him, as their leader, no choice but to align with their decision.

“The people said they would not remain in the opposition. As their leader, I must follow my people; they maintained that living in Rivers State means they cannot play opposition politics. As a father, I concur with that.”

“I advised them not to limit this to words but to back it with action. We have sent a letter conveying the stance of the Ndi-Igbo community in Rivers State to O.K. Chinda and Chief Nyesom Wike,” the monarch said.

He added that despite heavy rainfall, women turned out in large numbers to demonstrate their commitment to the community’s cause.

On her part, the Women Leader, Dr. (Mrs.) Constance Ngozi Amaechi Onyeremma, recalled that during her campaign for the post, she promised to partner with prominent figures across the state to empower women, a pledge fulfilled through the day’s outreach.

She revealed that over 50 indigent women benefited from the exercise, assuring that future editions would be on a larger scale.

“Today, we empowered about 50 persons with sewing machines, deep freezers, grinding machines, power generators, hair salon equipment and accessories, coolers, and cash grants.”

“All women leaders across the local government areas also received specialized empowerment packages.”

“I urge today’s beneficiaries to make good use of these items and resist selling them, as they will not fetch their actual market value. If anyone feels they do not need an item, they should return it to us; we will provide the cash equivalent so they can put it toward their preferred needs.”

“For those who did not receive items today, this is merely a stepping stone. Next year’s edition will be far bigger,” the Women Leader assured.

Also speaking, the President-General of the Igbo Community in Rivers, Chief Emmanuel Anya, noted that the event, tagged “After August Meeting,” was designed to showcase the demographic strength of Ndigbo in the state. He reiterated the community’s resolve to align with the ruling party.

Echoing this sentiment, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Dr. Onyeremma Anayochukwu, stated that as an Igbo leader, he stands with the collective decision of his people to back O.K. Chinda for the Rivers State governorship.

Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Prince Hon. Collins Onuwor, Esq., a former Commissioner for Transport in Rivers State, commended the passion and commitment shown by the women, urging them to sustain the momentum and remain loyal to their leadership.

Highlights of the event featured the distribution of empowerment materials, a march-past by local government chapters of Ndi-Igbo in Rivers State, cultural dance performances, and dramatic presentations.
