2027 elections: Peter Obi officially defects to ADC
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition-backed political party, in a move seen as a strategic step ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obi made the announcement on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, during an event in Enugu, declaring that his defection is aimed at transforming and rescuing Nigeria.
“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said, emphasising his commitment to national reform.
