The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on its new members to embrace unity of purpose as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the future of Nigeria belongs to those willing to shape it collectively.

The opposition coalition made the call on Saturday in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, while formally welcoming politicians who recently defected into the party.

The ADC said the growing influx of experienced lawmakers and political leaders into its fold strengthens its resolve to pursue people-centred leadership and national renewal.

“We proudly welcome Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members who have aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Together, we strengthen the movement for people-centred leadership and national renewal,” the party stated.

The party’s message comes days after the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, defected to the ADC alongside other prominent political figures from the South-East, a move widely seen as part of early realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

In its message to the new members, the ADC stressed that collective action, shared vision and internal cohesion would be critical in shaping Nigeria’s political future, urging members to remain focused on building a credible alternative platform for national leadership.

The party reiterated its commitment to democratic values, inclusive governance and reforms aimed at addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, as it continues to consolidate support across the country in preparation for the next general election.
