Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has pledged to mobilise at least one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mutfwang made the pledge on Friday in Jos while receiving his APC membership card, formally sealing his move to the ruling party.
He described Plateau State as more united than ever and expressed confidence that the new political alignment would strengthen cohesion and stability across the state.
Addressing critics of his defection, the governor urged patience, saying the benefits of his decision would become evident with time.
“One of the things I have always pursued is the unity of Plateau State. If you truly love Plateau, then you are my brother. Today, I am beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel,” Mutfwang said.
He noted that the groundwork for lasting unity in Plateau had been laid, adding that a new political movement anchored on collective interest was emerging within the APC.
“What we are witnessing today is the birth of a new political force for Plateau, riding on the platform of the APC, and together we will pursue the cause of our people,” he stated.
Mutfwang reiterated that his decision was driven by faith and a long-term vision for peace and development in the state, assuring skeptics that political acrimony would significantly reduce under the new arrangement.
He also maintained that his relationship with former PDP colleagues remained cordial, describing them as friends and brothers who shared a common vision for Plateau’s progress.
Speaking on his support for President Tinubu, the governor said he had assured the President of his loyalty as far back as June 2023 and reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I am committed to Mr President’s leadership and his re-election. I believe in his determination to fix Nigeria’s challenges, and I am ready to walk that journey with him,” he said.
Mutfwang expressed optimism that Plateau State would record one of its most peaceful elections in 2027, declaring that the state was well positioned to deliver one million votes for President Tinubu.
