The Zamfara State Government has suspended the Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Dr. Sirajo Shinkafi, over allegations of misconduct and insubordination.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Monday in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada.
According to the statement, the decision was taken to ensure the smooth running of academic and administrative activities in the institution pending further action by the government.
Nakwada said the government considered the suspension necessary in the interest of maintaining order and effective administration within the Polytechnic.
“The Government has decided to suspend the Rector to ensure the smooth running of the academic and other administrative procedures in the institution,” the statement said.
The state government assured members of the polytechnic community, including students and staff, as well as the general public, that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee the uninterrupted administration of the institution during the period of the suspension.
It added that normal academic and administrative activities would continue without disruption.
Efforts to obtain comments from the suspended rector were unsuccessful, as his phone number could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
The government did not provide further details on the specific allegations against Shinkafi or indicate how long the suspension would last.
