Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has promised to complete the recovery of Aba through the reconstruction of Uratta Road and Old Express Road, two major routes linking the commercial city to neighbouring states.
Otti made the promise on Sunday during a special Mass held at Christ the King Catholic Church. The event was organised by the Catholic Diocese of Aba to honour the governor.
Speaking at the event, Otti thanked the Church for the recognition and assured residents that his administration would continue to work for the people of Abia State.
He said his government had already improved sanitation, roads and water supply and would now focus more on healthcare, education, technology and industrialisation.
The governor announced that the reconstruction of Uratta Road and Old Express Road would begin soon, adding that funds for the projects had already been secured.
He also pledged support for the Catholic Men Organisation secretariat project as well as other projects being carried out by the Catholic Women Organisation and Catholic Youth Organisation.
In his sermon, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Aba, Augustine Ndubueze Echema, said leadership should be centred on serving the people.
The bishop praised Otti for what he described as compassionate and people-focused leadership. He said the governor’s achievements would speak for him and that he would not need to campaign for a second term.
Echema noted that it was the first time the Catholic Diocese of Aba had honoured a governor and thanked Otti for improving the lives of residents across the state.
He also encouraged church members to register to vote and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of future elections.
Leaders of the Catholic Men Organisation, Catholic Women Organisation and Catholic Youth Organisation also commended Otti, describing him as a leader whose policies had positively affected the lives of many residents, especially in Aba.
The groups presented special gifts to the governor during the ceremony.
The event was attended by top government officials, members of the Abia State House of Assembly, mayors and other dignitaries.
