The Yobe State Government has called on investors to partner with the state for the development of the agricultural sector.
The State governor, Mai Mala Buni, who was represented by Mr. Kaigama Umar, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Tourism and Solid Mineral made the call at the Yobe’s Special Day at the 20th Abuja International Trade Fair (AITF) in Abuja hosted by the Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
Addressing participants, Buni noted that the fair’s theme, “Sustainability: Consumption, Incentives and Taxation,” reflects a forward-thinking vision. This vision, he said, aligns with the state’s commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible economy.
The Governor detailed the state’s efforts to develop frameworks that support farmers adopting climate-smart agriculture techniques and incentivise Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaging in green innovation. Yobe State also encourages renewable energy investors through favourable policies and recognises communities that lead in waste reduction, afforestation, and environmental stewardship.
Buni emphasised that promoting responsible consumption across all sectors, from government and businesses to households, is essential. This effort involves encouraging energy efficiency and renewable energy use, promoting sustainable agriculture and water conservation, reducing waste through recycling and circular economy practices, and adopting environmentally friendly technologies.
He concluded by assuring that the state is committed to setting a good example through agricultural policies that seek to modernise farmlands through mechanisation, while integrating sustainability principles into public procurement, infrastructure design, and community development.
He also appealed directly to all prospective investors to come forward and take the opportunities that abound in Yobe for their businesses to thrive.
In the same vein, the Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) urged investors, entrepreneurs, and the broader business community to partner with the Yobe State Government to boost the state’s economy.
Director-General of ACCI, Mr. Agabaidu Jideani, highlighted that Yobe State has embraced privatisation to reduce direct government involvement in industrial production and create space for private enterprises.
He stressed that vast opportunities exist for investors, spanning from mineral exploitation to agro-processing, trade expansion, and industrial development.
Beyond its mineral wealth, Yobe has also established itself as a hub of regional and cross-border trade. Its geographic location, Jideani pointed out, makes it a gateway for commerce across Northern Nigeria and into neighboring West and North African countries.
He commended Governor Mai Mala Buni and his team for their commitment to economic transformation.
