Woman cries for help after IPOB terrorists murder grandchild, brother, hunt for son

A distressed woman, Eze Regina Chekwubechukwu, from Amokwe in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State has expressed helplessness after members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, declared his son wanted.

This came after the group launched a deadly attack in her compound, leading to the killing of her grandchild, Eze Emmanuel Obika.

Although the son, Chukwuma Collins Eze, escaped death by the whiskers, the group, which has been formally tagged a terrorist organisation, has not ceased hunting him down.

In an affidavit she filed before an Enugu magistrate court, the woman agonized how life had become terrible for her household over the activities of the IPOB.

Our correspondent gathered that trouble started for Collins after the IPOB members made efforts to enlist him into the group, a move he rebuffed.

They then went ahead to brand him a police informant, thereby declaring him wanted.

According to Collins’s mother in the sworn affidavit, they have been living peacefully “until early morning of 3rd January 2023 when one of the terrorist groups in Nigeria known as Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked their residence at No. 56B Amuri Road, Abakpa Nike, Enugu State, Nigeria which resulted to the death of her grandson, Eze Emmanuel Obika while her son Chukwuma Collins Eze narrowly escaped death with deep injuries all over his body.”

She added that the matter was reported to the police and Collins was referred to hospital for treatment.

The affidavit further indicated that “while my son was still on sick bed, he started receiving a series of death threats via phone calls from the terrorist group for reporting the incident to the Police Authority in Nigeria but the Police Authority could not bring them to book.

“That the death threats became severe and my son became helpless to the point that he escaped to an unknown place for his safety.

“That it was in January 2025 that I learnt that a friend assisted him and his family out of Nigeria for his safety,” she further revealed while bemoaning the inability of the police to arrest the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, it was further revealed that sometime in August 1st 2025, the said terrorist group invaded the woman’s house at No. 87 Obiagu Road, Onuasata Enugu, Enugu State Nigeria and told her to provide the son for reporting them to the Police Authority or else they would take her life in his place.

She said all her pleas fell on deaf ears as the IPOB members beat her to stupor, and in the process stabbed her on her left arm, hit her on the head with a club which left her unconscious.

“And while Mr. Eneh Godfrey (brother) tried to intervene, they started beating him up and in the process he was stabbed multiple times which led to his death,” she further lamented.

The woman said she was rushed to hospital by neighbours and that she regained consciousness days later.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has confirmed receiving the complaint from the woman.

In a bulletin obtained by our correspondent signed by CSP Tasie Vincent, he said the matter was documented and a police extract issued to that effect.
