NSCDC arrests two over sexual assault of 8-year-old girl in Bauchi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bauchi State has arrested two men in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area.

The spokesperson of the command, Mr Saminu Yusuf, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Katagum Division at the scene of the crime on July 13.

He said preliminary investigations revealed bloodstains on a bedsheet where the assault reportedly occurred, and a witness claimed to have seen one of the suspects attempting to clean blood from his trousers.

A N100 note given to the girl by her mother was also recovered at the scene. The victim has since been taken to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (FUHSA), Azare, for medical care and further evaluation.

Yusuf noted that the suspects had confessed to the crime and had already been arraigned. He reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society and ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes face the full weight of the law.
