The Oyo State Police Command together with the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department and community security groups have intensified efforts to manhunt and arrest a man identified as Alao Tokunbo Lawson-Olabode, a 53-year-old father of three, over his alleged involvement in a same-sex case being investigated in Ibadan.
Alao was reportedly linked to the case following the arrest of an ardent gay man Ilesanmi Rotimi at a hotel in Ibadan in April 2025.
According to the information provided, Ilesanmi allegedly mentioned Alao during questioning as one of his associates. To confirm his confession, investigators were said to have examined incriminating messages and photographs as evidences retrieved from the suspect’s mobile phone which allegedly insinuated the two men as same sex partners.
Following the development, police officers and members of community security groups made move to find Alao in various locations in the country where he supposedly operates all to no avail. Alao’s wife was later accosted at her business place somewhere in Lagos State.
However, Alao’s wife claimed ignorance of her husband’s sexual identity while Alao was reportedly not found at his Lagos residence and has since remained at large, prompting the police and other groups to intensify efforts to locate him.
The search has reportedly been extended beyond Oyo and Lagos States, with descriptive and detailed information linking to the whereabout of the suspect circulating among security and community members across the country.
A recent development in the manhunt for the bisexual suspect has reportedly drawn attention of indigenes of Ikoro, Ekiti State, said to be Alao’s hometown, where community leaders aggrieved about Alao Tokunbo Lawson-Olabode’s abominable conducts and defiance towards conventional traditional matters. The elders in the town acclaimed to have petitioned authorities over his acts of sacrilege since 2021.
The information further stated that authorities had contacted other police commands in the South-West as part of efforts to track and arrest Alao anywhere he is found, therefore urging members of the public with credible information on his whereabouts to contact the appropriate authorities. Relevant entry points into Nigeria and border areas were also said to have been notified as part of efforts to prevent the suspect from evading arrest.
