As party expels Wike, Fayose amid court battles

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and Vice President Kashim Shettima were among the dignitaries who attended the 65th birthday celebration of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, in Lagos on Saturday.

Fayose marked the milestone surrounded by family, friends and several high-profile political figures who joined him for the private event.

Saraki, in a post on his Facebook page, described the gathering as “a pleasure to join His Excellency, Ayo Fayose, along with his family, friends, political associates, and other dignitaries in Lagos today to celebrate his 65th birthday.”

The celebration coincided with the National Elective Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) taking place in Ibadan, Oyo State, heightening the political tension already gripping the party.

Wike’s faction had earlier sought court orders to halt the Ibadan convention, but the faction led by Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, insisted the exercise must go on.

Amid the ongoing power struggle, the PDP announced the expulsion of Wike, Fayose and several other top members, citing alleged anti-party activities.
