The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that he has endorsed a candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

During his monthly media chat, Wike described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that no individual has been chosen to succeed the current administration.

The former Rivers governor said any decision regarding the selection of a governorship candidate would not be made by him alone but collectively by members of the political alliance known as the Rainbow Coalition.

According to Wike, the coalition remains united and committed to ensuring that decisions affecting its political future are reached through consultation and consensus among members.

He warned against speculation and premature endorsements, noting that such claims could create unnecessary tension within the political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike maintained that discussions on who will fly the coalition’s flag for the governorship position have not commenced, and he urged supporters to disregard rumors circulating on social media and other platforms.

The minister reiterated that the coalition’s immediate focus is on strengthening its political base and maintaining unity among members rather than engaging in succession politics.

His remarks come amid growing political activities and speculation over potential contenders for the Rivers governorship seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
