Alleged N5bn plot: You are already self-destructing — LP replies Abia APC

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has rejected allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Alex Otti-led administration plans to spend N5 billion to destabilize the opposition party noting that the party is already self-destructing.

In a press statement issued on Sunday by the Labour Party’s Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the ruling party described the APC’s claim as a laughable piece of desperate political propaganda.

Emenike questioned why the state government would waste valuable public resources, time, or energy attempting to undermine an organization that he claims is already hopelessly destabilized from within by internal leadership tussles and bitter infighting.

According to the Labour Party, confusion, suspicion, and public power struggles have become the official identity of the Abia APC.

The statement pointed out that the opposition camp has been torn apart by premature governorship and senatorial ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Emenike highlighted the ongoing fierce battle between Henry Ikoh and Eric Opah over party control, alongside daily media warfare between rival camps over the Abia South Senatorial ticket.

He further alleged that many APC leaders are only interested in personal victories and waiting for election funds from Abuja to distribute among themselves, rather than building a viable, united opposition.

The Labour Party further slammed the APC for housing political actors from the old Abia political order who presided over the state’s past era of poor governance, election manipulation, and infrastructural decay.

Emenike argued that because these politicians are trapped in the old mentality of political criminality and magical figures, they find it difficult to comprehend a government that focuses genuinely on performance and governance without a desperation for power.

Reaffirming the governor’s commitment to the state, the party maintained that Governor Alex Otti is too busy rebuilding Abia State to be distracted by what it termed a political comedy theatre.

The party emphasized that public funds are no longer shared among reckless political patrons under the current administration, but are instead being prudently invested in visible projects.

The party listed ongoing investments in road construction, healthcare, school rehabilitation, security, urban renewal, and workers’ welfare across all 17 local government areas as the true focus of the government’s energy.

The statement concluded by advising the Abia APC to look inward, settle the endless confusion within its own house, define its true leadership, and stop issuing baseless propaganda.

The Labour Party asserted that Governor Otti enjoys overwhelming public goodwill driven entirely by transformational leadership and visible results, adding that Abians deserve a serious opposition rather than recycled, fictional allegations.
