The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the party leadership to ensure a credible and transparent national convention as a means to restore public trust and reconcile aggrieved members.

BoT Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, made the appeal during a meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, ahead of the National Executive Committee (NEC) session scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to a communiqué read by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NEC approved the timetable for the 2025 Elective National Convention, which will take place on the specified dates in Ibadan. NEC also mandated the National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.

The NEC further approved the composition of the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee to ensure a successful and credible event.

Makarfi emphasized that the outcome of the convention could determine whether aggrieved members who left the party would return. He urged leaders to act with unity and discipline, cautioning against projecting internal disagreements to the public.

Acting PDP Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, echoed this sentiment, stating that a new era had begun in the party. He appealed to former members not to let personal ambition cloud their judgment.
