The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has urged Abia State Governor Alex Otti to consider joining the PDP as a platform for his second-term bid in 2027.
Speaking in Umuahia on Monday, Wabara described Otti as “a huge asset for any political party” and assured him that the PDP would field him as its governorship candidate should he decide to switch allegiance.
“The interest in Governor Otti is not about politics alone; it is about his track record. His performance speaks for itself, and that will count greatly in 2027,” Wabara said.
Highlighting his role as an elder statesman, Wabara stressed that good governance should be acknowledged regardless of party affiliation. “Abians are now returning home to see the developments for themselves. Excellence in leadership should not be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics,” he added.
The PDP leader also commended Otti’s recent launch of a 25-year Abia Development Plan, describing it as a “focused roadmap for a new and greater Abia.”
He praised the governor’s efforts in areas including road construction, healthcare, education, industry, and security, as well as the introduction of electric buses for urban mass transit.
According to Wabara, Otti’s eventual defection to the PDP would strengthen the party’s presence in the South East and enhance its competitiveness in the 2027 elections.
“The South East has always been a PDP stronghold, and Governor Otti’s leadership would further restore the zone as a major force in Nigeria’s political landscape,” he said.
The PDP’s BoT Chairman also commended the ongoing rebranding of the party under the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee, noting that the changes have made PDP a credible and attractive choice for aspirants ahead of the 2027 polls.
Wabara added, “Governor Otti has put Abia on a remarkable path of growth envisioned by the state’s founding fathers. We hope he will consider joining us to continue this journey of development and progress.”
