Osun 2026: APC leaders call for united front behind Oyebamiji

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have called on the party’s state and national leadership to ensure total unity behind its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 8, 2026, election.
Oyebamiji, who emerged as the APC flagbearer through a consensus arrangement, was endorsed after all other aspirants reportedly stepped down in his favour.
However, concerns have been raised within the party that some members unhappy with the outcome of the primary may be losing enthusiasm as preparations for the election gather momentum.
Rising from a meeting in Osogbo, members of the APC Leaders’ Forum in the local government stressed that the party could only secure victory if all factions closed ranks and worked together for the success of the candidate.
The position of the forum was contained in a communiqué jointly issued by its co-conveners, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye and Tunji Adesokun.
According to the communiqué, the consensus emergence of Oyebamiji should serve as a rallying point rather than a source of division, urging party leaders to prevent any form of internal sabotage.
The forum said: “We are approaching a major election, and we must go into the poll as a united and cohesive group.
“The choice of Oyebamiji has made the task easier, but our leaders at both state and national levels must still work hard to harmonise all interests.”
The forum described Oyebamiji as a loyal, committed and experienced politician, adding that his chances of winning would be greatly enhanced if party members presented a common front.
Members of the group pledged to mobilise support for the candidate at the grassroots level and reaffirmed an earlier agreement among APC leaders in the local government that all members must drop allegiance to other aspirants once a candidate has emerged, regardless of the method of selection.
While commending party leaders for conducting a peaceful primary, the forum appealed for reconciliation of aggrieved members to strengthen the APC’s prospects at the polls.
It also warned against divisive tendencies, noting that available signs suggest that many voters in Osun State are eager for the return of the APC to power.
“With dedication and unity among members, victory for the APC will be much easier,” the communiqué added.
The forum further praised President Bola Tinubu, the APC national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, the party’s national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the Osun APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, and the leader of the APC Elders’ Forum in the state, Pa Sola Akinwunmi, for their roles in strengthening the party.
