The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has suspended the 2025/2026 Students’ Union Government (SUG) election following mounting concerns regarding the transparency and credibility of the electoral process.
In a statement issued on Monday, 14 July, and signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations Officer, Mr Njelita Louis, the university confirmed that the decision was reached during its 357th management meeting.
“The management has directed the suspension of the 2025/2026 Students’ Union Government election,” the statement said.
“This step has been taken to allow the university to address all grievances relating to the election and ensure that every stakeholder is accorded a fair hearing. The university management calls on all authorities to comply strictly with this directive and to support ongoing efforts to resolve the issues raised.”
Although the statement did not elaborate on the specific nature of the grievances, the suspension follows complaints from students alleging irregularities in the lead-up to the vote.
