UI to host diplomatic discourse on Nigeria's security challenges

The University of Ibadan (UI) is set to host a high-level diplomatic discourse on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the UI Senior Staff Club, focusing on the complex challenges confronting Nigeria's security architecture.

The event, titled “Security in Nigeria: Where We Are Coming From, Where We Are, Where We Want to Be,” aims to provide critical intellectual frameworks for addressing the country's most pressing security issues.

A panel of distinguished experts, led by Prof. Isaac Olawale Albert, a world-renowned authority in African History, Peace, and Conflict Studies, will explore the historical trajectory of Nigeria's security and assess its current vulnerabilities.

Prof. Albert, the Pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies at UI and a former federal delegate to Nigeria’s 2014 National Conference, brings decades of experience in conflict analysis and early warning systems to the discussion.

The panel will be moderated by Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan, Vice-Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, and a recognized expert in Population Economics.

Adding to the depth of the discourse, Prof. Nelson Olabanji Fashina of the Department of English at UI, a Fulbright Scholar and traditional High Chief, will provide a critical layer of semiotic analysis. He will explore the cultural narratives and sociolinguistic nuances that influence national identity and social cohesion.

A professional on-site perspective will also be featured, offering a practical, on-the-ground assessment of the current security landscape and bridging the gap between academic theory and operational realities.
