Former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against reportedly seeking a meeting with United States President Donald Trump, saying such a move could lead to “embarrassment”.

Mr Fani-Kayode gave the warning while delivering a lecture at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Akure, Ondo State, where he reacted to media reports suggesting that President Tinubu was making efforts to secure an audience with the American leader following Trump’s recent threat to invade Nigeria.

According to him, President Trump’s unpredictable nature makes such a meeting unsafe for diplomatic engagement.

“President Trump is irrational, unpredictable, and unbalanced. Seeking a meeting with him at this time is unnecessary and exposes our nation to embarrassment,” he said.

The former minister accused the US President of nurturing what he described as “a pathological hatred for Africans, black and brown people, and Muslims”, insisting that Nigeria must be cautious in its diplomatic dealings.

He further described Trump’s behaviour as an example of what Pentecostal Christians call a “Demastic anointing”, referencing the biblical story of Demas, a former associate of Apostle Paul who “lost his way due to a love for materialism”.

“He has been afflicted with what those of us in the Pentecostal fold describe as a ‘Demastic anointing’. It reflects a deep fixation on material things, similar to Demas, the follower of Apostle Paul who fell away,” he added.

Mr Fani-Kayode urged the presidency to adopt a more strategic approach in responding to the diplomatic tensions created by Trump’s threats.
