The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a party in irreversible decline, following its factional National Convention held over the weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to APC Lagos Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, what was intended as a rebirth for the opposition party instead turned into a “political obsequies” for a once-dominant institution now mired in confusion and internal strife.

Oladejo slammed the convention as a “poorly scripted show of desperation” and an embarrassment to Nigeria’s political class.

He noted that several notable PDP leaders, including incumbent governors, boycotted the gathering, signaling a party in terminal decline.

He added, “When a house is collapsing, even its architects flee. When a party’s own delegates choose absence over association, the diagnosis is clear: the patient is not just unwell; it is clinically unresponsive.”

The APC also highlighted the absence of INEC officials, which it said stripped the convention of legitimacy, leaving it a “political gathering without relevance or meaning.” Oladejo described the event as a “valedictory service” marking the funeral of a fading political empire.

He further argued that the PDP has failed to provide constructive opposition, calling the party’s current state a danger to Nigeria’s nascent democracy.

“A democracy without credible opposition is weakened; and the PDP, in its comatose state, offers nothing but noise without substance,” Oladejo said.

As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 elections, Oladejo predicted a turbulent path for the opposition party
