Tinubu heads to Kano today for stakeholders’ meeting

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Kano today Friday to offer condolences to the family of the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata, one of Nigeria’s most influential elder statesmen, businessmen, and philanthropists.

The visit was confirmed on Thursday by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. According to the statement, the President’s visit is meant to console the government, the people of Kano, and the Dantata family following the loss of a man who contributed greatly to Nigeria’s development.

Alhaji Aminu Dantata passed away at the age of 93, after decades of dedication to commerce, charity, and national growth. He was widely known across the country and beyond for his involvement in business, his kindness to others, and his passion for community service.

President Tinubu is expected to meet privately with members of the Dantata family. He will also hold a brief condolence meeting with Governor Abba Yusuf, religious scholars, and traditional leaders in the state.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the planned visit, calling it “a powerful symbol of national unity and shared grief.”

He also urged residents to receive the President in a calm and respectful manner, noting that the visit is not just about politics, but about honouring a national figure who stood for humility, progress, and service.

“This is a moment of solemn reflection and national respect. I call on all Kano residents to receive the President warmly and in an orderly manner as we honour the memory of one of Nigeria’s finest elder statesmen,” Governor Yusuf said.

He noted that the passing of Alhaji Dantata was not only a huge loss to Kano but also to the entire country, as the late industrialist played key roles in business mentorship, youth development, and charity work. His efforts touched lives in education, health, and support for displaced persons.

The governor added that all necessary plans have been made to ensure a smooth and peaceful visit. “We have worked with relevant security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination throughout the President’s stay,” he said.
