Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Friday visited Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) as part of his ongoing thank-you tour, where he voiced deep appreciation to the people for their strong support in the 2023 governorship election.

Joined by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Diri was warmly received by a large crowd in Oporoma, the LGA headquarters.

He used the occasion to reassure residents of his administration’s commitment to developing Southern Ijaw, highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects as proof of that promise.

The governor also inspected key road projects including the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road, the Angiama bridge, thet Angiama-Eniwari road, and a road leading to Otuan.

He announced that the bridge linking Angiama to Oporoma will be completed by December, which will finally connect Oporoma to Yenagoa by road.

Diri also revealed plans for a free technical college to be established in Oporoma, alongside several other completed and ongoing projects across the LGA. He urged residents to continue supporting peace and security to allow development to flourish.

“I have come to Southern Ijaw to greet our people. You supported us in our re-election, so we have come to say thank you.

“That’s why we are bringing developmental projects to Southern Ijaw LGA. We took Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie road from Igeibiri to Angiama after constructing the Aguobiri bridge, we are constructing the bridge from Angiama to Oporoma to link Oporoma by road this December, there is a road to Otuan, we are constructing the Angiama-Eniwari road, we have approved the construction of a free technical college at Oporoma and constructed various projects in Southern Ijaw LGA.

“Let’s continue to keep the peace and security, so that we can attract more development.”

The governor praised contractors for the progress made so far and urged them to stick to the completion timelines.

The visit drew a host of political leaders and dignitaries, including Senators Konbowei Friday Benson and Benson Agadaga, former Deputy Governor Rear Admiral Gborioboh John Jonah (Rtd), Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei, Hon. Fred Agbedi, Hon. Mitema Obordor, Hon. Marie Ebikake, Hon. Oforji Oboku, Rt. Hon. Monday Obolo-Bubou, Senator Moses Cleopas, Hon. Moses Marlon, Hon. Bonny Ayah, Secretary to the State government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Chief of Staff Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe, Chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA, Hon. Target Segibo, Commissioners, Traditional leaders and other top government officials.
