Terror on Ogun farm as armed herdsmen attack retired military officer

Panic has gripped parts of Ogun State after a chilling attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen left A Retired Military Officer, home, vehicle, and farmland completely destroyed in a violent raid.

The victim, A Retired Military Officer, W/02. Fasoyin Oluwatoyin who served as an Intelligent Officer, 56, from Oke Agbara Community, Olomowewe, Randa, Aiyetoro Road, Abeokuta, narrowly escaped death when over 30 armed herdsmen stormed his farm settlement along Igbo-Ora/Abeokuta Road on October 5, 2023, around 11:20 a.m.

According to a report from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Ikoyi-Lagos, the attackers, wielding AK-47 rifles, bows, and arrows, unleashed terror on the farmer, destroying huge portions of his harvested and yet-to-be-harvested crops. Retired Military Officer, W/02 Fasoyin who is also an Intelligent Officer while serving the Nigeria Army, managed to flee as the invaders fired sporadically and fled with their cattle after wreaking havoc.

Despite several reports to the police, the Retired Military Officer claimed that no arrests were made, and that the same group returned on June 12 and June 16, 2024, to complete the devastation. During the second attack, his house, farm, and vehicle were set ablaze, leaving him with nothing but his life.

Retired Army Officer Fasoyin, who has since been living in fear, alleged that the herdsmen vowed to return and kill him for reporting the incident to authorities.

Police sources confirmed that the matter has been referred to Detective Lawal Audu and his team for discreet investigation, as concerns grow over rising insecurity and unchecked herdsmen violence in the state’s farming communities.
