Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), completing the first official step in his move to the ruling party.

The registration took place on Sunday at the Government House in Jalingo, where officials of the APC Hospital Ward registered the governor and presented him with his party membership card.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, Kefas said the registration was necessary to allow him fully participate in and coordinate party activities in the state, despite having earlier postponed his official defection ceremony.

He recalled that the planned public reception into the APC, earlier fixed for November 19, was suspended in solidarity with schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State.

“I had already informed the party at the ward level. Today’s registration is a basic requirement, whether or not the official ceremony has been held,” the governor said.

Kefas thanked ward executives and members of the party’s state working committee present at the event, noting that the decision to join the APC was taken in the wider interest of governance and political stability in Taraba State.

According to him, aligning with the APC would improve cooperation and help strengthen the party’s structure across the state. He added that a new date for the formal defection ceremony would be announced later.

The governor’s registration comes amid increasing political realignments in Taraba, as politicians prepare ahead of future elections.

Last month, members of the state executive council, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Izito Benzena, and 14 lawmakers of the Taraba State House of Assembly defected to the APC, further consolidating the party’s growing influence in the state.
