The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has downplayed speculations that she may contest the Kogi State governorship election in 2027.

Speaking during an interview on Mic On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye on Saturday, the lawmaker said her current focus is more on a possible return to the Senate rather than a governorship ambition.

Akpoti-Uduaghan disclosed that discussions are ongoing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and among key stakeholders about her political future, but no final decision has been reached.

“I’m not even promised tomorrow. If by chance I live to experience the 2027 election, I may vie for the Senate again,” she said.

According to her, any decision to seek re-election would first depend on consultations with her husband, family and political associates.

“That is what I’m currently in conversation about with my political party, and it’s not yet certain. I first have to get the buy-in of my husband and family,” she explained.

On the governorship race, the senator said she was not ready to make any commitment.

“As for the governorship in 2027, I don’t know and would not like to speak about that,” she added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also dismissed rumours of a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that she remains committed to the PDP.
