Supreme Court voids Turaki-led PDP convention, restores David Mark led ADC

The Supreme Court has delivered landmark judgments resolving protracted leadership crisis in both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In the PDP suit, the apex court voided the national convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, which had produced factional executives led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

Affirming concurrent judgments from lower courts, the Supreme Court ruled that the convention was a nullity because it was conducted in defiance of valid court orders and due process.

This final verdict effectively dissolves the factional leadership and settles the long-standing legal tussle over the legitimacy of the Ibadan exercise.

Similarly, the Supreme Court restored the leadership of the African Democratic Congress by vacating a previous status quo ante bellum order that had paralyzed the party’s administration.

A five-member panel, led by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, held that the Court of Appeal acted beyond its jurisdiction by issuing the order after it had already dismissed the relevant case.

This decision paves the way for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to re-recognize Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as the National Chairman and Secretary, respectively, following their earlier removal from the commission’s portal.

The court has directed all parties to return to the trial court for the continuation of the substantive hearing.
