Sowore reacts to DSS suit suspension, demands return of seized phones

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the Department of State Services (DSS) suspension of its cybercrime suit against him describing it as a moral and legal victory.

In a statement on Sunday, Sowore noted that the secret police has been forced to “eat humble pie”.

He described the security agency’s actions as an exercise in futility, maintaining that his movement has withstood decades of state intimidation spanning military dictatorships, the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the current government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Invoking civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.’s adage that “a man can’t ride you unless your back is bent,” Sowore argued that oppression only thrives when citizens submit to intimidation, adding that his resolve remains completely unbroken.

The AAC leader called on the secret police to immediately withdraw what he termed “useless charges” and tender a public apology for allegedly abusing state power.

He further demanded the immediate release of all his confiscated electronic devices and mobile phones, as well as the unconditional return of the phones and media drone seized from his assistant, journalist Zainab Sodiq.

Sowore also insisted that the DSS must comply with existing judicial rulings by paying the ₦3 million in fines awarded against the agency by the courts, concluding that the struggle for justice and accountability remains unstoppable.
