Marking its 20th anniversary in a decisive push against counterfeit products, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria announced that it has certified 17,866 locally manufactured products from 8,634 companies under its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme, a massive leap from just 1,930 products by 458 companies when the scheme was launched in 2006.

Disclosing these figures at the National MANCAP Quality Presentation stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, SON Director-General Ifeanyi Okeke emphasized that strict quality enforcement is vital to protecting consumers, fostering fair competition, and bolstering the global competitiveness of made-in-Nigeria goods.

Representing the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Permanent Secretary Chris Osa Isokpunwu noted that maintaining rigorous quality and safety standards is essential to transforming industrial growth, attracting foreign investment, and expanding non-oil exports across domestic and international markets.
