The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, has reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is firmly focused on delivering tangible economic reforms through its Eight-Point Renewed Hope Agenda, distancing itself from campaign sloganeering in favour of a results-driven approach.

Malagi made the remarks in Minna, the Niger State capital, during the quarterly meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum with Commissioners of Information from All Progressives Congress (APC) states. The gathering, held at Guilete Hotel, was aimed at strengthening communication strategies around the administration’s key policies and achievements.

According to the Minister, the Renewed Hope Agenda is already being methodically implemented across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies with “discipline, prudence, fortitude and a firm commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.”

He stated that the conference reflects a collective responsibility to effectively convey the objectives and outcomes of the administration’s programmes to citizens at all levels.

Malagi praised the forum as both timely and essential to amplifying the developmental strides being recorded under the APC government, both federally and in the states.

He identified the fuel subsidy removal as one of the administration’s most courageous yet necessary interventions, explaining that the reform has curbed fiscal leakages and redirected funds toward infrastructure development.

“This decision, while difficult, has saved the economy from potential collapse and enabled investment in mega infrastructure,” the Minister said, citing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway, Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, Calabar-Abuja Superhighway, the Kaduna-Kano Standard Gauge Railway, and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway.

Malagi also pointed to a steady rise in social spending and monthly state allocations, enabling sub-national governments to execute projects with measurable, transformative impacts.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not only about macroeconomic reforms but also about creating real opportunities for prosperity, for individuals, families, and communities,” he added.

He highlighted flagship social investment programmes, including the Presidential Conditional Grant and Loan Scheme, which has benefitted over 900,000 small business owners, traders, artisans, and young entrepreneurs. He also referenced the Students’ Loan Scheme, currently supporting over 300,000 undergraduates, as a step toward ensuring that no Nigerian is denied higher education due to financial constraints.

Representing Governor Umar Bago at the event, the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Gawu, stated that Progressive Governors remain unified and results-driven.

“In Niger State, we are building the ‘New Niger’ through transformative reforms in agriculture, digitisation, urban renewal, and youth empowerment,” he said.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hajiya Binta Manma, added that the meeting’s theme, “Strategic Communication and Policy Alignment,” was crucial in an era that demands clarity and cohesion in governance messaging.

“Here in Niger State, under Governor Bago’s visionary leadership, communication is being deployed as a tool for development, accountability, and citizen engagement toward delivering our New Niger Agenda,” she stated.
