The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Branch, is set to empower 500 young members through its 60th Annual Youth and Leadership Training Programme, aimed at instilling leadership values and life skills in the next generation.

Speaking during the opening of the week-long youth camp in Lagos, Branch Chairman Mrs. Adebola Kolawole described the initiative as a vital platform to mentor and guide young people. She said the camp, now in its 60th year, plays a critical role in combating moral decline by reintroducing positive values and civic responsibility to youth.

“This training goes beyond lectures. It’s a full camp experience interactive, educational, and engaging,” Kolawole explained. “We invite experts to mentor the youths on relevant topics that will benefit them now and in the future.”

She stressed that participants must be registered members of the Red Cross, including both junior and senior members. The camp also features games, sports, and group activities to reinforce teamwork and discipline.

Branch Secretary Mr. Olakunle Lasisi highlighted the organisation’s role in building a network of volunteers who are actively engaged in humanitarian and social development causes. He said different sections of the Red Cross focus on guiding youths away from harmful behaviours and toward meaningful community service.

According to Lasisi, the camp hosts 500 participants and 45 officials from across Nigeria, all focused on fostering leadership and responsibility among young Red Cross members.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), praised the Red Cross for its long-standing impact in the state. He also acknowledged the state government’s support in strengthening emergency response systems and lauded the decoration of LASEMA officials as a recognition of the agency’s growing capabilities.

The programme reinforces the Red Cross’ mission to shape responsible citizens and prepare youths to contribute positively to society.
