PZ Cussons Nigeria returns to profitability, declares N16.6bn pre-tax profit

PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc has announced a significant financial turnaround, reporting a pre-tax profit of N16.6 billion for the year ended May 31, 2025.
This marks a major recovery from the N122.4 billion loss the company faced in 2024, driven by a surge in revenue and a sharp reduction in foreign exchange losses.
The company's audited financial results show that revenue climbed to N212.6 billion, a considerable increase from N152.2 billion the previous year. This growth was primarily fueled by the home and personal care segment, which generated N126 billion, while durable electronic appliances contributed N86.5 billion.
Despite the increase in revenue, the cost of sales also rose by 57.9% to N154.9 billion. However, the company's gross profit still improved by 6.6%, reaching N57.7 billion. Operating expenses also saw an increase, with selling and distribution costs up 35.3% and administrative expenses up 37.6%.
The most crucial factor in the company’s recovery was the drastic reduction in foreign exchange losses, which plummeted from N157.9 billion in 2024 to just N7.7 billion in 2025. This reduction enabled the company to swing from an operating loss of N124.4 billion to an operating profit of N18.9 billion.
As of September 4, 2025, PZ Cussons Nigeria's shares were trading at N32.00, reflecting a year-to-date gain of over 31%. The stock's value saw its strongest growth in February, with a monthly surge of 53.91%. Although the price reached as high as N43 in the second and third quarters, it has since settled back to N32.00.
